When is the best time to date? We've got the answer!

If you thought there were only four seasons in a year you are sadly mistaken. There are many more one can appreciate: the holiday season, the mating season, and the dating season! If you are wondering what the mating season is, I know many people who have children born years apart with birthdays that are weeks or even days apart. Which leads me to believe that they have sex once a year, and voilà that's their mating season. Nevertheless, one must date before they mate!

Dating has its highs and lows, doing it continuously without taking breaks is unhealthy. You need pauses to recharge to find the right person. Here is what I have found from my personal experience and from our FFL'ers. My story goes back to 2015 when I was dating online. Back then, apps were much better than they are now. I started late spring which generated one date. Summer was completely dead and things only picked up early September. I was consistently going out on dates until November and by then someone very special stood out from the crowd. Amongst the men I met in person, only two lead to a second date, one of them lead to a relationship, and the second lead to nowhere. I went on a date with Mr. Nowhere on a Saturday night and the following week, he posted on Facebook that he was moving to China! There's ghosting and then there's moving to the other side of the world. I guess I have that impact on people-lol. Suffice to say, I did not hear from him and he did not hear from me. After months of being online, and meeting so many men in three months, if I did not meet my person, I don't know if I would have continued dating after November.

What I noticed from our FFL community was that people were back on the dating scene by end of January. We started FFL in January 2024, we had zero funding, not much help from friends, and no clear idea on how to attract singles, but we started anyway. Our Instagram page grew, we had many hits from other event sites and we were able to put our first event together in March 2024. From that point on until mid June we were organizing events, and people were interested in meeting others. If you failed to meet someone by June, you were most likely going to take a break for the summer as so many people travel and resume in September. We hosted our first event back from summer break at the end of August and we are going strong well into November, but we are seeing a decline as people are gearing up for Christmas parties and putting dating on hold if they have not already found someone. We all know fall is cuffing season. Oops! Another season I forgot to mention!

Based on our findings, we've decided to create breaks, notably during the holidays and summer. However, in between all of this dating chaos, we've decided to create a different kind of event called Supper Clubs. These events are open to everyone, no dating, no female to male ratio and it's all about the food and having a good time. I know most people will think, it's another Timeleft. Our concept is totally different: Timeleft wants to fight big city loneliness, while our philosophy is all about offering a humane way to date. Being on apps all the time is maddening, whereas a good meal, with a glass of wine, and great conversation does wonders for your soul. Timeleft hosts small gatherings of up to 6 people for dinner and maybe an afterparty. The structure that we have put in place is conducive to a great party from beginning to end. So if you don't meet your person at your first event, you should simply enjoy the ride as our events make being single thrilling.

Finally, I hope you will enjoy your dating break over the holidays. We are hosting a Supper Club Christmas party next week that will be on a Friday night, we hope to see you there. While you are reading this, I'm cleaning up our last dating event of the year and getting ready to post new stories for next week's blog!

Enjoy

Jenn
